Description

Crossbasket Castle – A luxury castle for hire near Glasgow

Crossbasket Castle is a meticulously restored 17th-century castle hotel on the outskirts of Glasgow, combining historic character, contemporary luxury and Michelin-level dining in a peaceful estate setting. Surrounded by woodland, riverbank walks and waterfalls, it works beautifully as a corporate event venue in Central Scotland for strategy days, incentives and fully residential retreats.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Crossbasket Castle is designed for comfort, character and flexibility. Within the original castle, individually styled bedrooms and suites feature period windows, antique furnishings and a strong sense of historic grandeur, ideal for VIPs or senior leadership stays. The newer bedrooms and suites have been designed with state-of-the-art luxury in mind, blending Art Deco-inspired finishes with stunning views over the gardens.

For added privacy, the estate’s self-contained lodges are perfect for facilitators, speakers or small leadership groups. Gate Lodge offers two bedrooms, including a master suite with a king-size bed, sauna, steam room and shower, opening onto a veranda with a hot tub and views over the gardens and woodland. East Lodge provides three bedrooms and an open-plan lounge with a traditional fireplace, dining area and a fully equipped kitchen, along with sauna facilities and a private garden hot tub. Together with a broad mix of castle rooms, junior suites, deluxe and classic rooms in the hotel, planners can configure the estate to suit a range of group sizes.

Indoor spaces

Crossbasket Castle offers an impressive portfolio of event spaces with genuine flexibility. The Roosevelt Ballroom, a medieval-style space beside the original castle with glazed roof and timber beams, accommodates up to 300 theatre style, 250 for dining and 400 for a standing reception. The James Little Hall works perfectly as a reception room for gala dinners or as a stand-alone function space, with a capacity of up to 200 theatre-style and 100 for dining.

For smaller meetings and private dining, the Stewart Room and Baillie Room provide elegant, characterful backdrops. The Stewart Room is suitable for meetings, networking lunches, and presentations for up to 40 people. The Baillie Room, with its vaulted ceiling, open fireplace, and lawn views, accommodates around 30 people for private lunches or dinners. The Balcony, overlooking the Roosevelt Ballroom and the River Calder, is ideal for discreet lunches, afternoon tea or delegate breakout for up to 12. Trocadero’s Terrace, Lobby Bar and the wider Trocadero’s Restaurant and Cocktail Bar give additional options for informal networking, drinks receptions and social evenings.

Outdoor spaces

Set within approximately 14 acres of private grounds, Crossbasket Castle feels secluded and immersive despite its proximity to Glasgow. Woodland and riverside walks, including a beautiful stretch along the riverbank with waterfalls and local wildlife, are well-suited to wellness breaks, reflective sessions or informal team time. The manicured gardens and patio areas outside Trocadero’s Terrace, with bi-fold doors opening directly onto the lawn, create a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces for drinks, barbecues, and relaxed breaks.

The wider estate setting encourages guests to switch off from everyday pressures. Whether it is a quiet walk before a meeting block, a guided nature walk as part of a retreat schedule or an outdoor drinks reception by the garden fireplace, the grounds support a more restorative style of corporate event.

Dining and catering

Catering at Crossbasket Castle is a significant highlight. Menus are overseen by Michelin-star chef Michel Roux Jr, son of the late Albert Roux, with dishes crafted from locally sourced Scottish produce. Bespoke menus can be created for corporate groups, or planners can allow delegates to be surprised by the daily creations from the castle kitchens.

There are multiple dining settings on site. The Michel Roux Jr Restaurant offers a refined, historic backdrop for formal dinners. Trocadero’s Restaurant and Cocktail Bar offers a more theatrical experience, featuring sophisticated cocktails, live music, and a sense of “Golden Age” glamour that suits celebration dinners or incentive groups. Complementing this, Foveran’s Restaurant offers a light-filled, palm court-style atrium for breakfast and relaxed lunches, perfect for quiet conversation and informal networking. Private dining can be arranged in the castle’s reception rooms, on Trocadero’s Terrace or in combination with the ballroom for gala events.

Corporate and group events

As a Five Red Star property and one of only a small number in Scotland with this highest grading, Crossbasket Castle is particularly well suited as a luxury corporate retreat venue. Its combination of historic castle spaces, modern hotel accommodation and high-level service supports everything from board strategy sessions and client entertaining to sales kick-offs, wellness retreats and residential training programmes.

The venue’s event spaces can host up to 300 theatre style or 200 for gala dinners, with ample breakout in the Stewart Room, Baillie Room, Balcony, James Little Hall and Trocadero’s Terrace. The events team partners with corporate specialists, such as Team Challenge Company, to offer tailored team-building events, murder mystery experiences, and outdoor challenges, alongside private food and drink tastings and special guest appearances. With Glasgow close by, planners can also build in city experiences, culture and curated day tours to Ayrshire, whisky distilleries or the Trossachs.
