Set just outside the picture perfect village of Maiden Bradley, Bradley House sits in peaceful elegance amongst soft rolling hills and ancient trees. This has been a family home of the Dukes of Somerset for over 300 years and the current Duke still stays here several times a year.
It is difficult not to be impressed by the grand gates and perfect symmetry of the facade but there is also something instantly welcoming about this beautiful home.
The magnificent paneled Dining Room hung with wonderful tapestry and the impressive hall is all you would expect from such a distinguished residence. There is a definite sense of occasion upon your entrance to the house, but, straight away you are struck by the mellow light from the large windows, the warm lemon smell of waxed wood and the wonderfully human scale which puts every guest at ease. The Library, Drawing Room and Study are all blessed with the same lightness and comfort, full of family antiques and soft sofas. In the winter the open fires keep everything cosy.
The clean and thoughtfully decorated bedrooms range from stately to cosy and most are ensuite with some of the bathrooms being quite magnificent, there is even a tudor oak bedstead used by King Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour (Seymour being the Duke’s family name), which guests can use today.
This mixture of comfort and style is quite unique - it is the sort of home where you can settle down with a book and then have a glass of champagne instead of tea, just because you feel like it.
Also quite uniquely, Bradley House is offered just as you would like it - be that self catered or fully staffed. There is something quite special about waking up in a stately house and being able to wonder downstairs in your pyjamas and help yourself to breakfast in the kitchen. You may also like to try the fully staffed option so that you can indulge in breakfast in bed with no washing up!
The grounds and village are superb for walking and many outdoor pursuits can be arranged including 4x4 off roading, clay pigeon shooting, archery and horse riding. The house has an outdoor swimming pool and they can arrange for in-house beauty treatments. For the historically minded a guided tour of the house and its history is available.
Stylish and relaxed - Bradley House is offered with affection, with pride and with making your stay as wonderful as possible as the top priority – we will be back and we know you will be to.
