A beautifully renovated farmhouse and barn set in an idyllic French hamlet positioned perfectly between the Pyrenees and the unspoilt Atlantic Coast. Deceptively large and well equipped for families it offers an easy and comfortable escape for large groups.

The house is light and airy with an open plan living area containing a large cosy lounge complete with log burner and a huge kitchen. Modern styling blends well with rustic detail to create a welcoming environment. A substantial welcome pack is included with the rental so you are comfortable from the moment you arrive.

There is a pretty dining room that seats as many as 17 on 1 table or 21 on 2 tables adjacent to a further snug room that is bright and fresh but with another wood burner for chilly days.

The bedrooms range from a well-located ground floor room with an attractive stone wall (the baking used to be done here and the traditional stone oven is a feature of the room) to a fun children’s room and an elegant master room with balcony. The bathrooms are delightfully modern.

Of course the garden is ideal for enjoying the sunshine, with an outdoor pool (open in season), lots of good quality garden furniture and two BBQs. The pool has a child alarm for extra peace of mind and if the weather isn’t great you have both Freesat and Sky plus a host of board games and books on hand for entertainment. There is also a pool table in the games barn and a PS2.

The location is superb. You are a few minutes away from the beautiful medieval town of Sauveterre-de-Béarn rich in history. Sauvaterre also boasts everything you need if you don’t want to travel too far whilst on holiday including shops, markets, bars and restaurants. For those who want some excitement Sauvaterre is renowned for its water sports such as rafting and canoeing. The house itself is situated just 5 minutes walk from a beautiful river.

To the North, the salt town of Salies-de-bearn is renowned for its Spa. Nestled among wooded hills, it is a small town full of character with old stone houses, sloping roofs and picturesque flowered lanes. To the South Navarrenx, the first walled city in France, offers salmon fishing, white water sports and outings with a pottok (a local horse) or on a mountain bike.

In the larger region you have both beaches and mountains to explore along with some excellent cuisine. Roam the wilds of the Pays Basque or even take a short trip into Spain and visit the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao.

The friendly English owners are always happy to help you before you arrive with organising anything from baby sitters and shopping delivery (even fresh eggs from the neighbour) to activities and advice about the best places to visit. Airport transfers for up to 9 people at a time can be arranged if booked in advance.

As a family holiday experience you could not find a better base and friends will be pleased to find a warm welcome with large spaces to get together and well as a flexible combination of bedrooms.
