What we love about this mansion is the feeling of family and big-heartedness. There is a definite sense of welcome from the moment you arrive and this is backed up by enough gorgeous historical details to make everything feel really special. For a large family or a corporate away day this is a perfect place to retreat to.

The setting could not be more beautiful – surrounded by the rolling hills the mansion is set back from the world but with a great view of it!

Not immediately visible at the start of the drive, it is only as you get further along that you appreciate the scale and splendour of the front façade. You are welcomed by a cosy wood panelled hall which leads directly into the dining hall complete with a magnificent plaster work ceiling and a large wood burning stove – for entertaining you couldn’t find a better spot. This side of the house also enjoys a large pretty drawing room and a very big but cosy family room with squashy sofas in front of the fire and a table ideal for playing board games or for an informal breakfast.

The other side of the house offers even more room to spread out with a big country style kitchen where you can create your own AGA masterpiece and a big old table just right for tea and cake. Further on there is a great children’s playroom leading into the sunny conservatory with valley views. Best of all though is the almost baronial games room with a large open fire place, full sized billiards table and the most wonderful wooden panelling and floors.

The bedrooms range from big country house style comfort to cosy children’s dens and lovely family rooms. Bathrooms have a mixture of new fittings and antique pieces and tiles.

The 13 acre grounds are just amazing – lots of sunny spots and shady corners in which to while an afternoon away, plenty of outdoor space for children to run about in, a tennis court and croquet lawn.

Being surrounded by beautiful countryside the list of outdoor activities that are close at hand is impressive – take some gentle walks or get a bit more adventurous with mountain biking, clay shooting, fishing or even rally driving. A special mention should be made about horse riding – this is a horse friendly property with stables and a vet in the family as well as wonderful rides over the open hills.

We know that larger groups do struggle to find a home from home property that is special enough to be worth the trip a yet comfortable enough to make you completely at ease and with so much to do boredom is just not an option. We think this is it.
