Just one mile from the beautiful North Devon coast this inviting manor house has recently been refurbished to offer a truly indulgent retreat.
The rich rolling countryside of Exmoor acts as a back drop for a sumptuous stone manor house dating back to the Doomsday Book. A first glimpse shows how much attention has been lavished on the existing historic aspects of the house and the later extensions which provide a seamless light filled extension of the property.
The ground floor of the house offers two large drawing rooms, a library and a wonderful breakfast room featuring cosy sofas and open fires or log burners – just right for a quiet book or a late night chat. There is a very grand piano and an excellent DVD and book collection so you won’t be bored. Bringing together natural materials, elegant antiques and beautiful fabrics creates an atmosphere which is both easy to enjoy and welcoming.
The magnificent kitchen is a chef’s paradise - well equipped with an “Everhot” oven and 2 additional ovens so enjoy creating something special with the outstanding local produce and compliment that with Berry Bros & Rudd wines as they deliver direct to the house on request. The dining room is magnificent and a great place to celebrate with a special meal.
For those looking to keep out of the kitchen do ask about the wonderful local chefs and of course with a house this exceptional housekeeping is included.
The bedrooms are just fabulous, huge antique beds, Egyptian cotton sheets and a style that just urges you to stay a little bit longer. The bathrooms are the stuff of fantasies made true – huge copper tubs that cocoon you in masses of hot water scented with exotic oils – how will you ever tear yourself away!
The local area is just busting with things to do and see including an excellent selection of field sports but special mention should be made of the wild and romantic history of Lorna Doone. The manor is set in the very valley where the Rydds and the Doones lived and battled for centuries and the church just steps away is the one where Carver Doone intended to marry Lorna – look out for special mention of the tale around and inside the manor. Take yourself out for a walk on the moor and see if you can imagine the days gone past – or simply look out for the vast array of wildlife.
Even though the house is located in the heart of tranquillity the owners have been careful to make sure that guests are not without civilisation and a list of good local suppliers and great restaurants is available. They also have an easy access Wi-Fi if you need to stay in contact with the outside world.
If you have been wondering how you should be treating yourself and your loved ones this year then this is where you should be looking.
