near Llangollen (under 90 minutes from Manchester and Birmingham)
8 - 18 people
With its classically good looking red brick facade and 165 acres you would be right in thinking that this house offers an impressive setting for your party. The sweeping views across the Llangollen valley and a fully restored Victorian greenhouse suggest an important and ancient past which is mirrored by the high ceilings and fabulous architectural details both outside and inside the house.
What makes this house distinctive however is the charm of the interiors – renovated and cared for as a modern family home, there is a sense of fun and almost decadence to the often quirkily and richly decorated rooms that will keep your guests fascinated and left feeling absolutely at home.
The entrance is impressive – straight into a stunning dining hall with masses of gothic charm. Warm colours, a huge stone fireplace and wonderfully carved furniture create a welcome never to be forgotten. The marble inspired regency style drawing room offers a light filled counterpart which doubles up in the evening as a big cinema room.
For those in need of some peace, the snug with an additional TV offers a cosy retreat and the smoking room offers a little bit of splendour with a quirky twist. The kitchen has everything that you need for a great party including a 2 oven Aga and to top it all off there is a great games room with a pool table.
After a journey up the impressive staircase, which may take you some time due to the fascinating pictures and photographs which line the walls, you are greeted with a set of bedrooms which are both individual and comfortable. There is the exotic Moroccan room with a deliciously spicy feel and the four poster room with a bed so high that you need a step – just right for playing out any princess fantasies that you have. The bathrooms are as individual as the bedrooms and offer a brand new take on bathing in style.
The first floor also houses an unexpected gem – a columned music room with a baby grand piano – if you want to practice your x factor auditions or have a festive Christmas sing along then you have a special room just for that.
Outside the views are breathtaking, a meeting place for the rolling green hills of the English borders with the drama of the Welsh valleys. The garden is full of history and has been restored to its former country house glory.
Special mention should also be made with regards to dogs and horses – the house welcomes both and can offer great bridal paths and a floodlit arena**. Outdoor pursuits for all ages can be arranged locally and special celebratory dinners can also be catered for during your stay.
Just minutes from the house is the town of Llangollen known for being a cosmopolitan and vibrant centre for visitors – hosting some impressive festivals and offering some great restaurants and a beautiful canal complete with a true sense of history. Further afield are the outdoor playgrounds of Snowdonia and the chic boutiques at Chester.
Surprisingly accessible, if you want a grand old house with a sense of drama located in stunning countryside with lots to see and do then this is the start of your very cosy house party.
