Most of us have an idea about what we would really want if money was no object and we suspect that this house is what many people have in mind. A historic Mill House converted to the highest modern standards set on its own island within walking distance of several country pubs. Great walks straight out into the countryside along tranquil river and meadow paths and all within an hour of London. Looking for your perfect bolt hole this is it!
Right from the entrance gates this house grabs your attention the drive meanders along one of the many streams giving you your first glimpse of the bubbling water, the pretty terraces, and the absolutely stunning building.
Inside the house lives up to the promise of the first impression - coolly chic furniture and modern lines combine with rich historical features as the rooms tumble, one after the other, in a seemly endless light filled space.
We believe you could spend a weekend in any one of them and be perfectly happy but you have so much to choose from. Curl up with friends and enjoy your favourite film in the cinema room which has a funky cream log burner, or delight in watching kingfishers swoop along the mill stream and under the dining room. There is a first floor games room which has a pool table but we wonder if you will ever finish a game so absorbing is the view.
The kitchen is everything you could hope for with an artisan built feel and lots of modern amenities including a huge American style fridge freezer and large electric range. If you are having caterers then the house benefits from a further kitchen and utility/pantry rooms.
Possibly the room you will really fall in love with is the breakfast room at river level with a walk out terrace right to the waters edge this really is the stuff that dreams of lazy mornings are made of or, if you want a cosy corner, there are 2 further drawing rooms; one has an log burner and the other a remarkable open fire ensuring that this is an all seasons house.
The bedrooms are en-suite or with their own bathroom and reflect both the high standards and bright openness of the rest of the house whist retaining their individual character. Bathrooms are newly and beautifully decorated with good quality stones and mosaics.
Most of the family rooms have direct access out to the exceptional gardens which are a real paradise of river bank, meadow and formal terraces wherever the sun is shining there is a spot to sit and catch it or a nice cool bit of shade under an arbour or more unusually the mill wheel.
If you are throwing a grown up party there could be no more memorable a location - impress your guests with the tasteful decor and stunning location and then let your hair down and ramble across the fields to the pub or lay by the river and let workdays fade into a distant memory.
