Located in a spectacular valley amongst woods which can still boast a red squirrel population, this beautiful Victorian country residence has been carefully restored to its former glory and now offers a wonderfully warm and attractive home with plenty of space and plenty to do.

Drive up through woodlands to reach this hill top house whose terraced gardens gaze across the tranquil valley farmland. The gorgeous entrance hall leads to a magnificent staircase hall full of rich oak tones and floorboards made from old estate trees – like so much of the house they were ecologically recycled during the renovation.

The main family rooms which consist of a library, dining room, drawing room and huge kitchen all have an elegance of style combined with beautiful colours, materials and antiques which really defy guests to feel anything but perfectly at home. In winter open fires and a huge Aga create a cosy atmosphere and in summer the rooms offer bright space with large windows and plenty of great views.

The first and second floors contain a lovely collection of individually decorated rooms which range from classically grand to whimsically pretty, many of them are ensuite or have private bathrooms. Also on the first floor is a great den complete with big soft sofas and a large TV with DVD player – perfect for a little time out.

As if this wasn’t enough there are 2 further wings to the house each with its own kitchen, garden and cosy living rooms as well as more bedrooms. The kitchens are all fully equipped and the living rooms have an open fire or woodburner allowing larger groups plenty of space.

For bigger groups the estate offers a spacious coach house (wing 3), just a 30 second stroll from the main house, which has been converted with great sympathy and a huge amount of flair into a large flexible living space which is perfect for almost anything you can think of from big dinner parties to yoga classes. Filled with light from huge windows and made comfortable with a large log burner surrounded by sofas. All bedrooms are ensuite.

The grounds offer much in the way of walking and wildlife spotting as well as more formal gardens and a heated outdoor pool where you can drift away whilst watching the clouds through the trees.

The valley is famed for its beauty and being just on the doorstep of the Lake District you are never far from almost any activity you could care to name as well as quaint market towns, dramatic scenery and several sites of historical interest.
