Set in a lost garden floating above a sweeping river estuary, this castle is the essence of dreams. Not only is there the chance to experience the thrill of having your own private estate but also the luxury of not abandoning all the practical indulgences of home.

No guest could fail to be impressed by the considerable drive along a dramatic wooded valley or besotted with the breathtaking first glimpse of the castle. Practically lord of all it surveys the castle has truly one of the most magnificent views we have ever seen. The gardens have been compared to Heligan and a wide river frontage forms part of the property which really adds to the sense of experiencing true estate living.

Arriving at the castle you will be met with the warmest of welcomes and the ground floor family rooms are full of light and virtually all enjoy those magnificent views. The castle has recently been refurbished so even though it retains the charm of the classical style with stone or wood floors and elegant antiques the colours are fresh and the sofas comfy. The kitchen is bright and quirky with a proper farmhouse table and a new Aga as well as a conventional gas range, dishwashers and a large american style fridge. With Wi-Fi and Sky and there is no need to feel totally separate from the modern world –unless of course you want to.

9 ensuite bedrooms provide truly restful retreats – spend a long morning with tea and a book or wake up refreshed and ready for a brisk walk. The bathrooms again benefit from the wonderful taste of the owners and are modern havens of tranquillity with reliable hot water.

The landscape provides a wealth of opportunity for activities from long walks to stylish riverside picnics but do take some time just to be soothed by the glorious sense of peace and time passing slowly that makes this beautiful private castle so very very special.

A particular mention must be made with regards to the gorgeous Victorian bathing hut and the outdoor pool. It is not often that you get to swim in a walled garden and the romance of a party on the banks of the river offering candle lit dinners and a quick dip in the river on a sunny day is irresistible.
