0202 Historical Manor - a true country house experience

Nr Chester,(90 minutes from Birmingham)
Upto 18 people

This beautiful manor house with its mellow stone facade and historically significant grounds provides a perfect backdrop for your country house party. There are seven lovely bedrooms mostly ensuite - just the right size for a grown up getaway or family Christmas.

Very much a home, everything from the original 17th century wooden paneling and sumptuous sofas to the cosy Aga warmed kitchen and candle lit dining room are welcoming and unashamedly genuine in their grandeur.

As we arrived we were greeted by a buzzard who swept grandly before us leading us up an ancient tree lined drive. There could not have been a better introduction, our first steps into the impressive flagstone hall confirmed that this is a cordial and magnificent house.

On the ground floor there are 2 equally large and well decorated drawing and morning rooms. The drawing room has wood paneled walls with original family portraits and a large open fire, the morning room is decorated in fresh morning colours with doors to the garden but has a large open hearth for those winter evenings.

The kitchen has a lovely old breakfast table and an Aga as well as being fully equipped to modern standards and it is impossible not to be seduced by its affection.

The dining room really is a credit to the manor’s long standing and dedicated housekeeper. The antique table gleams and the candle sticks glitter – you will never want to have a meal in front of the TV again.

The top 2 floors offer 7 gorgeous bedrooms that range from pretty country style to a grand four poster. There are 6 totally individual bathrooms – some of which are huge.

There is also a quite stunning attic TV room with a large flat screen TV/DVD and Sky being offset by the ancient old wooden beams in the ceiling. A great place for a lazy afternoon or an informal family gathering.

The grounds of the house will pleasantly surprise you with wonderful treasures in the form of a walled garden boarded by the most amazing little “Llettae”, small shelters built specifically for the comfort of poor travelers. These were built by the current owners’ ancestors who established the hospitality to guests that the manor was built for.

Situated in its own land just over the boarder in North Wales, the manor can offer guests a wide range of activities both on and off site ranging from clay shooting and mountain walking to the chic shops and amazing Roman buildings at Chester and Theatr Cymru – one of Wales’ premier culture sites.

Access from London is astonishingly convenient, just 2 hours by train into Chester and the manor can help you arrange transportation to cover the short drive (15 minutes) from Chester to the manor. Access by car is equally good with the manor being just a short drop off the M56.
